I always use OEM ink or toner in my printers as it has been tested and approved by the manufacturer. I've seen some horrendous results and the odd damaged printer when compatibles are used.

Having said that, you'll no doubt find many moneysavers on here swear by compatibles.

You pay your money, you take your chance ;)

I have had a lot of experience with originals and compatibles for both Epson and canon printers.

My first foray into the compatible market was terrible, inks would not dry quickly and clogged up the print heads after little use.

However, about 6 months ago I decided to try again as the cost of originals were becoming too much of an expense.

Basically I can now without a doubt recommend the use of compatibles, but only certain manufacturers. I have now used 10 or more different brand inks and the quality between them is quite surprising. Any inks by Inkrite, Printright, Desktype, or ProJet have worked perfectly in all my printers. Inks from 7dayshop and local poundland stores as well as all unbranded cartridges ordered from various other online stores were awful.

For the last 3 months I have purchased all my inks from Northdevoncomputers.co.uk and have had no problems, although the inks do vary brand, I have only received ProJet and Desktype.

But overall it really depends on the use of your printer. If you are a lite user who likes to print the odd photo, I would probably stick to the originals. If you print a lot, and mostly text with the odd image then give the compatibles a try.

I have never had a problem caused by the compatibles recommended above and the problems I had with others clogging print heads was easily fixed with cleaning fluid.
