M&S Rump Steak special offer - query re the maths?

Can someone help me out here, please? Hope this is not too complicated how I have explained it.....I am not sure if I am going mad or not...

M&S Rump Steak is on offer in my local store. Usually £14.99 per KG but now according to the SEL it is about £7.99 - can't quite remember exactly).

The packets (which are of various weights) show the full £14.99 per KG and then have the individual pack's price. I queried this with a shop assistant who said that the pack price included the discount - this doesn't seem quite right to me if the £14.99 per KG price is still showing - I would have thought that I would pay half the pack price at the till.

I've come home and checked the price of a pack I already had in the freezer and for the weight of that pack the £14.99 price per KG is what I was charged. It seemed to be about the same price as the packs that I saw today.

Compare this to the organic chicken I bought which was on special offer - this had a sticker on it saying the price included the reduction and it showed the reduced price per KG.

Anyone queried this themselves?

Thanks
Sparkly

Have you checked the receipt? Sometimes M&S show the new price on the packets (like the chickens as you say) and sometimes the discount is shown as a deduction at the end of the receipt which isn't so easy to spot. The assistant may have got it wrong as it is a bit random which method is used...sorry I'm not in store for the next few days so can't give you a definitive answer, but if you call your store I'm sure they will be able to look into it for you.
  • Hi pulwf -thanks for your reply - I don't have the receipt. I will think about giving them a ring - it is just such a complicated story!

Is it worth buying another pack - by itself- and seeing what the receipts says. If it does not reduce the pricepoint it out and you might get some free steak if you are persistant, or if it does show the discount get a refund, (is that allowed on meat??) or fake "oh no i've left my purse/wallet/cards at home".

It's not right, the assistant was wrong, I would take it back as you aren't completely satisfied.

I think M&S steak is on a par with most butchers - it was even better than costco's last time I got fillet!!

I would think what has happened is the packs were produced before the offer started hence the £14.99 on the packets and you have been charged £14.99 from the barcode.

What our local Tesco do when this happens is put a new label with new barcode and reduced price over the original barcode, a bit like a yellow reduced sticker.
