As I have posted before in an earlier thread we are first time buyers, buying a house in Leeds for 106K
Originally, we were offered a mortgage with Halifax for 80% of the value on a 2 year fix
the conditions were that we paid off two credit cards
We have 3 cards:
Mint with 8K
Natwest with 6K
LloydsTSB with 5.5K (yes, I know before anyone gets critical)
We couldnt pay off the Natwest and Lloyds that were stipulated in the Offer without lowering the deposit to 15% and borrowing 5K from My dad
we did this and had the reduced deposit accepted
so, we thought everything was fine having paid off the Lloyds with the money from my dad and the Natwest with the spare from the deposit
However we had the new mortgage offer today and now they want the mint card paid as well!!!
At no time did the advisor ever tell us that we had to be debt free before borrowing 85K!!!
Bloody hell!

From your other threadHowever, they are saying that as a condition of the mortgage we need to pay off our credit cards...about 5k between us
did they know about all of your credit cards at the time of the offer, or did they think you only owed 5k?0 -
we declared all credit card debt to the mortgage advisor at the original meeting with him
His last advice to us was "Just tell the solicitor that you have paid them off"
Didn't get far with that...
I just hope that they want two of the cards paid off as in the original offer
The thing i dont understand is they must know it is just shifting the debt around
ie.I no9 longer have a 5k debt with TSB but have one with my dad!0
