Time limit for disciplinary after the event??

Options
Is there any set time limit that a disciplinary hearing can be held after the event has occurred.

IE: a colleague be being questioned for an event that occurred on 19th June and that the event was reported to the management on 22nd July, and now is being called to a disciplinary hearing for that event of 19th June.

So is there a time limit after the event that a hearing must be called within.

thanks

The ACAS Code of Practice on disciplinary action states that the process must be gone through without delay, although no time limit is given. I guess it would depend on the circumstances.

I would have thought that if the board didn't hear of it until the 22nd they couldn't be blamed for not taking steps sooner.

Well on the basis it was only reported 2 days ago and they are now going through the proceedure, that would be "without delay". They cannot be expected to act before an event is reported/witnessed.

Even if they found out about whatever it was on the day, thats only about 4 ago anyway isn't it?

    Thanks,

But if the event happened on the 19th June and only now its been reported, some 4 weeks later.
Is that too late to consider a hearing.

"He had been asked to locate some vehicles using a terminal on the 19th June, but allegedly failed to note the condition of a vehicle, where it was found on the 22nd July to be covered in coal dust from a nearby coal storage depot. Also several other employee's are also being called for a hearing, where they also located the same vehicle in the same location, using a terminal on other dates before and after the 19th also alledgedly missed the condition."

no its not too late unless your company were silly enough to set an exact time scale in their procedures, which is very unlikely

There is no time limit from date of "offence".

It has to take a reasonable time from "time of discovery" as per the ACAS code, plus the companies procedures.

reasonable time is the key word and one you will find is probably used within the procedures,

So it's disciplinary offence in your line of work to get a car dusty?

 So several people failed to notice that a vehicle was covered in coal dust both before and after the date your friend is accused of not having noticed it.
So it's disciplinary offence in your line of work to get a car dusty?
And how do they know when it did get dusty?
