Carcraft PPI Help

I know this is a longshot but here goes.
I purchase a car from Carcraft back in 2000 on finance and was as I belief mis-sold PPI and their car warrenty.
The car has since been sold and the loan paid back. I wrote to them regarding this matter and because its almost 9 years ago they claim that the limitation period is 6 years and the jurisdiction of the financial ombudsman only came into effect on transactions that took place on or after january 2005, is this correct?
