Cheap Socks Hunt

I used to have a cast iron money saving method of buying socks. 'What Stores' used to sell 7 packs of mens socks for 99p - averaging 14p a pair. That was the price I wanted to pay for this necessary but rather degradeable consumer item!
As far as I can tell when visiting my local high street, What Stores is no more. A visit to my local next reveals socks for sale 3 pairs for a fiver! Not quite what I'm after. Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative for sock purchases? Preferably in the halcyon pricerange that What Stores used to offer?

ASDA have packs of black cotton men's socks for £2. There are 5 pairs in the pack, but occasionally they offer 20% extra free (i.e. 6 pairs).0

My local asda have a big sock sale on at the moment with most of them 50% off (especially the woolier wintery ones).
Alternatively - fly Quantas to Australia as they give you a goodie back with a free pair of navy socks (one pair per leg of the flight - so you get 4 pairs for a round trip!!)Rhiannon of Woolamai
Thanks!

Don't you get naffed off with all the bits of fluff and cotton that comes off the cheapie socks though? I am forever hoovering when they put on the cheap ones!!!! I notice when my husband or boys wear good quality socks, they last longer and they don't leave fluff all over the floor (or in my washing machine!!). I don't like paying Next prices, but I do now tend to buy Next socks from the outlet shops....much cheaper. Hubby also got Mark and Sparks ones from his mum for xmas (bless!!)....0

I've always found Matalan socks to be wonderful - I only ever wear the novelty ones, and they are among the cheapest I've found. Am sure you could get a cheap multipack too.Blood donations to date: 10 | Type: O negative[/B][/CENTER]0

The Wilson ones from Matalans are good (if you like sport socks - white black or grey). You get a pack of 6pr for £5 (I think). They last a while and keep their shape. They're £11 for the same in Debenhams.0
