OR and work related dilemma

Hi there,
I work for a small company on a self-employed basis and although the majority of my work is done there, very occasionally I need to write up a report from home. I'm about to file for BR but my (rather old) PC is clearly on it's last legs. How would the OR view me buying a (cheap!) laptop replacement before I do so - while I still have a little cash to my name, because I won't be able to do so during BR...
I use my home PC for about 90-95% personal use and only 5-10% for work. I don't want to do anything that might jeopardize things with the OR but I do need to work from home occasionally and do rely on forums like this to keep me sane as everything falls apart around me (not the kind of thing I can trawl through at work!).
Any advice or suggestions gratefully received!
Thanks

Hi MBL
Personally I would not be extravagant pre BR....if you know you are insolvent then technically you cannot, by the very nature of that situation, be able to afford items such as a PC.
Is there any way you could get your current machine udated/serviced to ensure it remains reliable?

Hi Angie,
I could scrape the money together now, but won't be able to do so once BR goes through. I've already had to replace the hard drive once after the last one crashed (which paying for someone to rescue what was on it (including all my accounts! I back up now...), and buying new hard drive cost almost as much as a really cheap laptop. Perhaps it's the kind of thing I could find on freecycle?0 -
Hi, I guess if you could show that you have looked for the cheapest option to replace then the OR would see that you have taken steps to keep costs down. Obviously there is also some work related needs that you have pc & net so this fact will go in your favour.
Personally I have been given an old laptop from a relative as they said it was an old one but I got it repaired for £45! works like a new too! Its worth asking around as well as looking at freeserve.
