Day out-Ilfracombe or Minehead?

I'm thinking of booking a trip on the Balmoral Steamer but don't know whether to go to Minehead or Ilfracombe so I thought I'd ask on here.

It'll just be for the day. I like to browse interesting little shops, art and craft galleries etc. Which place would be best for that sort of thing?

Also, any recommendations of nice places to eat?

Thanks!

sorry but both towns are deprived coastal resorts they both have good and bad things, but on a wet and windy day they both feel like the end of the earth.

Ilfracombe has a few little galleries and lots of tacky holiday town shops pubs, pubs, pubs and cafes, and minehead is pretty much the same, if i were you which ever was the cheapest would be where i was going

I agree with Pitkin. Ilfracombe was lovely in its hey day but its well past its best (which is a shame as I had many happy holidays in the area).
Minehead was full of tat the last time I went, which admittedly was a few years ago.
Pity you can't get to St Ives as that has pretty much a lots of what you describe!

Shame, those are the only places in Devon that the boat goes to.

    Anyway, thanks for the replies.
