A Question of Wills....

Hi all
Not sure if this is the correct subforum but here goes anyway..
I'm a guy in my mid 30s with a house, good income, savings etc... I need to sort out a will and have spoken to my IFA about the matter. He referred me to a law firm he knows who quoted about £300 to draw up a will, with additional fees for safeguarding the will documents.
This struck me as a bit costly, so I wondered if anyone on here had some advice on the subject of wills. I guess the key thing is to write down what you have first, then work out a basic allocation... I really dont want the government to get the majority of my estate!
The secondary question around wills relates to my parents. My father was recently diagnosed with cancer and it's shocked him into action on the will front. They havent got loads to bequieth (sp?), but I want them to get the best advice possible
Again, the were quoted about £400 for a draft will and were also told to get a joint will. I'm not sure this is right... my dad's life expectancy has reduced and our feeling is that separate wills makes more sense economically
Any thoughts?
Cheers

300 quid for a straightforward will?
What a rip off! - check out the Institute of Professional Will writers at https://www.ipw.org.uk. You will find members in your area to contact who will probably provide a much better service for a third of that cost. They will also be able to look after your parents.0
