What's the best way to view my credit files?

As a noobie, and as I cancelled 2 cards last month I thought that I should have a look at my credit file.
I uderstand that there are 2 main companies - experian & equifax.
Is the normal way that people look at their file, by filing in the online forms and sending the £2? Though as this tales up to 10 days I'm sure there is a quicker way for seasoned Stoozers.
Do people take advantage of the 30 day free trial, or are there any hidden catches?
And finally, if I request my file, is that shown as a search?
Thanks for any help.

If I take advantage of the 30 day trial, will the looking at my file count as a credit search?
If I knew that it didn't I would subscribe for the free trial.0 -

It is recorded as a special search that only you and the CRA can see.
I've tried Experian and Equifax free trials. I had to submit a credit card for payment after the free trial - but managed to cancel both trials easily.

So just to be 100% clear - searching my file on the free trials will not impact on the chances of being able to obtain further credit? It is recorded as a special search that only you and the CRA can see.0 -

That's correct.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0 -
The 30 day trial does not begin instantly - they first have to post you an activation code for the website, which can take up to a week to arrive. This is to ensure that the person asking to view the credit information is actually you.Oompa_Lumpa wrote:If I take advantage of the 30 day trial, will the looking at my file count as a credit search?Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
