This was my first one: http://uktv.co.uk/home/buyersguide/aid/607007/childItem/9014
and this is the one I have now: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Morphy-Richards-Stainless-Cooker-Digital/dp/B00013JWVO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1248306730&sr=1-5
I would say for a family for 4-5 people, I would go for the 6.5 litre if possible. Nothing goes to waste, leftovers can be frozen for another day (or lunch the next day if anybody is home on their own).0 -
I bought a slow cooker this afternoon from Tesco - it was under ten quid! Not used it yet but am hoping to become a convert!!

Hi sassie - that looks a good size for the price
.
Often the ones for under a tenner are much smaller than yours. Hope you enjoy using it - you'll get the hang of it soon enough.
Lots of recipes on this site and on the internet.0 -
Morning,
Sassie what a great price for the slow cooker, i think i will try and get a bigger one though then i can put any surplus food in the freezer.

Not necessarily money saving, but I wanted a slow cooker & knew that I wouldn't use it too often if I needed to seal/brown meat first making more washing up. I decided to go for a crockpot which has a removable pot which can be used on the hob, in the oven, in the microwave & even in the freezer. I think their around the £40 mark in Argos, so whilst they're not the cheapest they might be an option if you're lazy like me lol!0

I've just bought the MR one from Argos, the last one they had in any of my local branches, so thanks for that Deb.
I'm goign to read the SC thread, of course, but I've got two concerns right now. First the browning...in a few months time I'll be looking for a job outside the home (work at home right now) and I just know I won't be bothered getting up at 5.30am on a January morning to start browning meat for my tea. Is it absolutely essential to do this?
Second, the liquid thing. I had an SC about 20 years ago and the meat was tender but there was always too much liquid. Any tips? Thicken it with cornflour or something?0 -
well folks, i think you have sold it too me!!
i'm looking on the internet right now to see whats available.
i dont want anything to big as i live on my own, but i do tend to make double the amount so i can take it to work for my lunch the next day.SPC 0370
