B&Q Cooke & lewis or Magnet kitchen???

Hey guys, looking for some advice. Looking for a new kitchen, have finally got it down to two both cream high gloss either from magnet or B&Q. The cooke and lewis one believe it or not is dearer than the magnet one so as it says in B&Q we asked them to price match. They refused, took a couple of hundred quid off, but say their product is superior in quality. There are things i like about both kitchens, the cooke and lewis one has taller cabinets and nicer pelmets, the magnet one has better soft closers on the doors and is probably better quality. What do you guys think???:j

B & Q have a half price sale starting friday on cooke & lewis - have you been quoted on the new prices ?" He who knows does not speak. "He who speaks does not know. Lao-tzu Chinese philosopher (604 BC - 531 BC)

yes, quoted on the 'sale' prices. Still anoyed, whats the point in saying you will price match when you wont!0

Magnet is better quality than Cooke & Lewis
have you thought about Howdens? The Glendevon Cream is very similar to the Cooke & Lewis
http://www.howdens.com/product-range/kitchen-collection/contemporary/glendevon-cream/
I got my quote from Howdens with the intention of taking it back to B&Q for the price match except with Howdens the items come from stock - you can have the kitchen delivered within a week and if there are any items missing you can just go and pick them up! Also with the Howdens kitchen, I picked to have the beech effect units as the plain white particle board look from B&Q is not great (I know you only see them inside but I hate the white ones). The Howdens ones wood effect ones give a much better look of quality. For me, getting an extra 10% off the kitchen wasn't worth a two month lead time and the potential for delievery errors/delays and trying to sort them out.
How big is your kitchen and how much are they quoting you? Magnet aren't cheap by any stretch of the imagination and B&Q, without 50% off are not competitive in my opinion.
On my initial quotes for the kitchen in our barn, in the half price sale the units in B&Q were half the price of Magnet - discount negotiated as far as we can get them. Howdens came in cheapest - we do have a trade account with them so no mark ups through a builder!
Do not use any of their fitting services - they are a blatant rip off. Find your own fitter!
Here's mine, rubbish pic taken on my phone and it's not finished obviously! With 6cm corian worktops, glass splashbacks, appliances and fitting it's going to come in at around £7000. It looks quite small but that back wall of units is 3m long.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

loving your kitchen, its really big!
Thing is we have got our magnet kitchen at below trade price (long story!), through a guy that we know and it is about £4500, that is excluding worktops, sink, tap and applicances as we already have them and we didnt like the worktops. The Cooke and lewis one has come in at £4995, excluding the same things. I know it isnt a great deal of money these days for a kitchen and our kitchen isnt to small. Too be honest i dont want it too quick as i still havnt chosen my floor!!!
There is just a few things that we cant get in the magnet one which is pushing us toward the B&Q one. I can buy the soft closers online so that isnt a problem and we will be fitting it ourselves. Also in magnet as the units are pre assembled the coloured end pannel goes on the end of the unit, whereas you remove the white pannel in B&Q and replace it with the coloured one, all this is taking more and more space up with pannels and some of the units i want i cant now get from magnet due to lack of space! Does that make any sense??!!0 -
Whereabouts are you lynsiloo? My kitchen units were half the price you're being quoted and I was quoted similar prices by magnet (£4000 and we have a contact there too) and B&Q (our second quote but no sale on) was £4400. My Howdens units absolutely smash both those prices.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

hiya, i am in glasgow. Would need to find somebody in the trade to get a howdens account or can you blag one??? My partner recently opened a magnet trade account with no problems at all. Have had a look at the howdens ones and they are just as nice.0

If it's the magnet trade quote that you have then perhaps he could blag one by taking down the quote and telling them he normally uses them?
We've had our account for years and it is genuine trade but they didn't exactly interrogate H when he opened the account; although there are plenty of moneysavers who have tried and failed. You'd be looking to get a significant amount off those prices if you do get a quote. I'd offer to help but I think the delivery charge to glasgow might be a bit high!!

ok, b&q have now siad that they will price match my magnet 'trade' quote, although they dont have a clue it is a trade price. We have to go in on monday, if they do match it and take a further 10% off it would take it down to £4195 with a free double oven. Also today blagged a howdens trade account, got all the stuff, bit anoying that we have to get somebody out first to get a price, was hoping to work it out myself from the prices. Ah well cant get everything, thanks for mentioning them, will let you know!0

B&Q are supposed to start a full 50% off sale today as well, no wonder they're offering to price match. You need another quote!
Well done on the Howdens front too.I'm surprised they're insisting on coming out - ours couldn't care less!
