Recommend somewhere to eat in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling
Options
Hi,
We're off to Scotland this weekend, and we always have problems finding somewhere to eat:
My dad will only eat traditional type food - meat + veg/pies, etc, and won't eat anything with cheese, tomato, garlic, salad, basically mediterranean/italian
I'm vegetarian
The others like italian, but will eat most things.
We're on a budget, have under 18s in the party, and prefer relaxed/casual type of places. Lunch or dinner suggestions would be great.
Hope you can help! Thanks.

sarti on bath st for lunch or dinner, there are a few sarti in town but the one on bath st thats kind of in the basement is the best for quality and price, lasagne is great!
or you could try ashton lane for a meal, some nice resturants there.
or oran mor,its a converted church at the top of byres road, you might need to book in advance for an evening meal but lunch should be fine.
or mal maison, a bit expensive but if you really want some top notch nosh then this is great.
other than these there are tons and tons of places all over the city to eat.
all of these are in glasgow.
if your in edinburgh and want italian then i can highly recommend gusto....work permit granted!0 -
Frankie and Benny's chains will have something for everyone including your Dad, and their lunch menus are very good value for money, iirc they are in Edinburgh and Glasgow, not sure about Stirling. Suits all ages and have a bar area for if you want a drink before lunch/dinner.
ok, here's stirling - along from Springkerse business park, iirc it's part of a retail park, but I may be getting confused with the Dunfermline one.

You might want to consider Papa Joes while in Stirling - it's on Dumbarton Road which is easy walking from the town centre and easy parking also. I would think you would find something on the menu to suit everyone
They have a website with more info including menus

Only much good if you have a car. you can catch the bus but it takes 20 mins or so from waverley.0 -
Stirling - Papa Joes is good, Zingerman's round the corner more upmarket.
The Bank at Craig's Roundabout is good too.
Have a great time- hope the weather improves for your weekend!0 -
Breakfast in Edinburgh - try Lloyds, in the Omni centre, top of Leith Walk, at the main roundabout. Literally overlooks the roundabout. It is a Wetherspoon pub. Its full cooked breakfasts are yummy and ultra cheap. I go for the vegetarian one - only £2.69. And their coffees are good and reasonable at £1.29 a cup.
If you like curries, at the Edinburgh mosque (potterow, runs parallel to Nicholson street, in the old city area) has an outdoor eatery just behind the few shops to the right of the mosque entrance (i.e. you get to it by entering through the mosque gates. VFery cheap and good food. A buit more upmarket for curries is Kushis, in, I think nowadays, Victoria Street. They used to be on Potterrow but have moved. Delicious fish curry and very reasonably priced.
For fish and chips, takeaway style, Benes, on the Canongate, down towards the bottom, on the right hand, south side of the street, is yummy/good value. On the south side, in Morningside, on the A702 there is another pklace called the Comiston Fry which also has nice fish and chips.
For totally yummy vegetarian food, Hendersons, downstairs in Hanover street, on the east side of the street near to Queen street intersection, is definitely worth a visit, and quite reasonably priced.0 -

i often wonder what kind of quality your getting for a sit down full breakfast for that kind of money. well i know the answer to be honest, its really poor quality stuff.
i think your doing the right thing by sticking to the veggie option....work permit granted!0 -
Edinburgh's Chop Chop is fantastic and very inexpensive. Gordon Ramsay featured it on his prog, so good recommendation! Loads of veggie options, your dad may have to ask a waiter for a help with his if he likes traditional but almost everyone likes Chinese nowadays? Anyhoo, it's really good Value For Money and 2 mins from Haymarket train station -half way up Morrison Street. Enjoy!0

F&Bs in Stirling is in the Forthside development next to the new Vue cinema - walk across the new wavy bridge that goes right over the railway station and you're there.
City Walls (it's on the Back Walk, almost opposite Papa Joe's on Dunbarton Rd) is a Wetherspoons-style pub - menu online at
