Well I don't know specifically about the terms of this credit untion but I'd suggest you speak to them and explain your situation and say you'd like to see if they will lend you money to pay off the payday loans and also say that you want to be able to make some small savings so you don't have to use payday loans again.
(I'd make the point about the savings as you will be required to make savings to borrow money- and its shows good intent).

They may have a place you can 'drop in' to speak to someone face to face which might be better than a letter.

As a completely unrelated point to your original question if you are having financial difficulties I'd suggets you do a financial statement of affairs using this link - http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
Then you could post it on here and see if we can advise where you can save money/get things cheaper, where you may need to make some cutbacks and how to tackle your debts.

With the experience of many posters on here we should be able to come up with some suggestions which will free up some more cash for you each month.

Have you asked your bank if they will extend your overdraft to pay this off and get you back on track?
Alternatively open a bank account at a different bank and have your wages paid into that, and all your DD's transferred to it. You will then be left with an overdraft at your old bank which you can pay off at an affordable rate.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

You won't know until you ask.
