Lost endowment

Hi, I have recently found out that my parents had set up endowment policies with life insurance attached for me and my two sisters in 1988, the company they went with was refuge assurance, they used to pay into it through the post office and now we are all over 21, the endowments should have matured, but we have no paperwork for these policies. i have traced the refuge company to the royal london group and have contacted them about our policies, they cannot find any records and i was told the only way to find them was with reference numbers for the policies, but having no information for them has caused me to hit a dead end, is there any way i can find out any information on what to do to recover these endowments?
