Sainsbury's washing Powder.
I bought a new box yest and noticed the size was ridiculously smaller than previously. Its now of not much value against the 800g one at £1.95 (also with a price increase).
i assumed it was me as i last bought some months ago. However, having looked on their website their non bio concentrated one is 4KG and the standard non bio is (now) 2.5KG... I'm assuming it was previously 4KG but don't have an old box to verify (went in recycling).
does anyone have an old box of their own brand (blue box) non bio powder (£4.57).
If it has been reduced I will be making a complaint again as the price has increased when the size has gone down!

Yep thats what every supermarket does this and Tesco are the worst for it.
Is it fair? No.
However there is no law against it, so they can just carry on ripping people off unfortunately. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Shopping is war. They will do everything they can to get your money from you. A shopper needs to be alert, to be wise to their tricks and to fight with every means at their disposal to keep their money as long as possible.
Not illegal and not even unusual for everything from washing powder to cornflakes - but it isn't nice.
btw, I am normally an admirer of Sainsbury, but they have done this on a few items, including the basics washing powder, which works really well.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
damn thats real bad. i have sensitive skin and found that powder to be the best, so cant just go and use another. but a 1.6KG drop is MASSIVE! im still gonna complain via their site and see what they say.
Thanks guys.0 -
I noticed this trend some months ago - I went to buy Epicure's lazy garlic and the jar had 'shrunk' so much it looked as if it should have been in a dolls' house! I think even more sneaky is the smaller reduction (Asda SP powder) went from 3kg to 2.5kg so not so noticeable. Also so may tins of beans now seem to have fewer beans and more sauce.0

It's the same with those little trays of blueberries. Some shops sell at 125g and others at 100g. You think you have saved money until you look at the weight. Nowadays you have to be whizzo at the price per kilo on everything and be armed with a calculator before leaving the house!0

I am afraid that is happening to lots of items and not just in Sainsburys. Look at some of the hanging bags of sweets the size is now considerable smaller. I suppose we will all still buy the washing powder until something just as effective but cheaper comes along. Though I too am quite annoyed about this.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

The majority of soap powder is now being sold as XX washes and the actual weight in the box is reducing.
Sainsburys own basics brand was 3kg for £1.64 and 30 washes.
It is now 2kg for £1.64 and 30 washes.
According to the box, it is more concentrated and you need less in the scoop :rolleyes:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Unless you have a muck spreading farmer or suchlike in the family, NEVER use the amount recommended on the packaging. 50% of said amount should usually easily suffice - the washing of clothes is actually majorly carried out by the action of the water, not soap powder and the manufacturers tell you to use more than needed for one reason only - so that you buy more sooner than you have to. This was told to me by a relative who works for Proctor & Gamble.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
It's like Icelands' four of whatever for a pound, most of them are now three for the same price; baked beans for example, I know why they do it but it's the implicit assumption that you are thick and will not notice that I resent.0

I also noticed this recently with Tesco washing powder & initially felt hard done by - but it's just more concentrated, you use less & still get the same number of washes from the box.0
