What Are The Best Job Agencies For Temporary Work

Options
I'm looking for temporary work in the areas of customer service, call centre, retail, events, promotions (giving out fliers), demonstrator etc.

What job agencies deal with this sort of recruitment for temporary work?

Many thanks in advance.

I think this would hugely depend on where you live. Quite a few of the agencies in my area are just local ones.

Best thing to do would maybe to google them or look on yell.com and then register at quite a few and see how you get on :)

Hays Office Support, Reed Employment, Kelly (I've never had any work from them though), Office Angels.

I've seen temp promo work advertised at places like vivastreet and gumtree so might be worth checking them out too

I would not recommend any of them - These agencies are very hard work to deal with !!!. In my experience they waste your time by advertising fake jobs and when they have a vacancy that I am qualified for they refuse to submit my cv to employers when I request them to do so. When registered you have to keep chasing them week after week for work or you will never hear from them. Also if you turn work down for whatever reason they will bin you for life.
I realise it is difficult finding work and I am in the same position.
I would advise the speculative approach and apply direct to companies and to avoid these people.

I'd highly recommend Hays, my husband managed to secure a permanent position through them and he loves it.

I have had good temp work from NRL and Rullion, and also secured a very good permanent job through Reed Employment. All found me work within a few days! I guess it varies depending on experience, qualifications and location. I also put my cv on http://www.cv-library.co.uk and got a stream of phone calls and took a job offered by Rullion.

Agreed. Although i'd say that you havent much option other than to use an agency like Hays, Office Angels etc for customer service and call centre work.

However the other sorts of job types you suggest - avoid agencies at all costs (ESPECIALLY the big names), they only get these jobs in as a last resort as they recieve very little commission on them, and its often not worth their while. At this time of year its very easy to get security, festival, Promotions, demonstrator work just by ringing local companies that do that sort of thing. If you are in a University town get yourself down to their job agency, they usually pay far more and have much more of this kind of work than a for-profit company. Also search for internet messageboards frequented by our antipodean backpacking cousins, and ask local nitespots etc who does their promotions as your interested in a job.

Gumtree is also a big one to avoid for this kind of work, the number of places that advertise promotions work on there and request a photograph (clearly looking for females of a certain body type) or lead you to some sort of pyramid scheme selling door to door are obscene.

Where I am I have found that agencies don't even want to speak to me or invite me in to sign me up without even knowing my experience or whatever.
