cheap night away

Hi, myself and my partner really fancy a night away from the kids, we live in Edinburgh but are thinking of heading up north. Can anybody recommend a nice, cheap hotel or b&b? Not too bothered where about it is but would like a nice little town or village, anything for some peace and quiet;)

  • Because I'm a new user I can't leave a link however Oxford Hotels and Inns have a great web site......

....there are quite often good deals going for DB&B in Scottish Hotels.
We've used them a couple of times for Carnoustie in December.

Brora in Sutherland, it's actually officially, the original site of the Garden Of Eden. That's how beautiful it is. You got the unspoilt beaches, the lochs, the hills all that stuff

Alastair at Glenavron has a guest house with rooms that would shame a luxury hotel.

No connection, just that I had a really comfortable time there last year and enjoyed his hospitality so much I'm going back with friends next month.

I would have thought Sutherland was far too far to drive for a night away. That road up there is so crap, especially just now with all the caravans.
Maybe look at Angus, Edzell is a nice wee place or there are places over at the coast if you fancy that. Or maybe Perthshire ? Lots of nice places there. Or the Trossachs ?

    Everyone to their own opinion.
At least I answered the OPs question which was "Can anybody recommend a nice, cheap hotel or b&b"

Broughty Ferry - you can even come on the train if you et the timing right.

Ex fishing village, but was once the richest square mile in Europe so nice houses and lots of nice little pubs and places to eat.

Try the Broughty Ferry Hotel, has it's own swimming pool so is a bit nicer than an average B&B. Our family have done a dump and run there before and said it was great (D'n'R is dump the baby then run away for a night:p)

Not necessarily cheap but for great food try The Crusoe Hotel, Lower Largo in Fife.

Fabulous location, nice beach and less than an hours driving from Edinburgh.

What about somewhere in Moray or Speyside?

I once stayed at a good gusthouse in Keith, £37 a night for b&b

Did this last year for h's birthday stayed at rufflets on the outskirts of St Andrews http://www.rufflets.co.uk/, not cheap but fabulous food and lovely gardens with a terrace where you can have a drink/tea outside if the weather is good.
