Wilkinson has opened in the old Co-op in Motherwell. There is a thread on the Quick! Grabbit while you can section of the forum. It was really busy when I was in.

Bit harsh. There have been a few new shops opened recently it at least looks as if they are trying.
Hamilton and East Kilbride have so many empty shops and nothing seems to be happening there. The parking charges put people off going in for a look around but it has built a great empire for someone in the council.0 -

considering a few years ago motherwells shopping centre wasnt too bad and you could get most things you needed there i dont think its too harsh, just honest. its about time we had at least one decent shop,at least it gets all the fat lazy single mums with fat lazy stupid kids somewhere to go when its raining....work permit granted!0 -

Have to admit it's been about 6 or 7 months since I was there but the problem is it looks like everywhere else.
It is so depressing that Kilmarnock, Airdrie, M'Well, Dundee etc etc are so uniform. The same shops in the same types of malls.
I haven't been to Hamilton or Irvine for example, but I bet I could name every shop in the High Streets there and none of them would be local.
Town planning only exists to the extent of granting the multiple chain stores permission to build and towns like M'well lose their character as a result of it.0 -

(I agree in principle about the decline of the high street...but...)
Shoot me down in flames if you like guys but I actually think you're all missing the key point in at least this announcement means that wilkinsons have made it accross the border.
This is huge!! I have so little other excitement in my life :rolleyes:0 -

Next time you're in Dundee try going a bit along the road to Broughty Ferry, nice little boutiques, individual shops and lots of (nice) pubs for the men to wait in.:D Then a fish tea before going home.
Canna beat it.
Having said that, there's probably room for a Wilkos in one of the retail parks.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Balance 1st November '09 = mortgage paid off with £1903 left over. Title deeds are now ours.0 -

I know it well and the reason it's like that is because the rents and rates are reasonable and can attract the type of businesses you mention.0
