mortgage exit fees

Hi, I am new to this site, :j(which i think is great by the way!!). I have just foned my old mortgage lender(GMAC RFC) to claim exit fee from 2005.
I was told that this only applied to bank mortgage exit fees, which I did not know if that was true??. As I did not have documentation to go by, I assumed that I must of been charged over the odds and took my chances on ringing them. The lady on the fone said that I was charged £115 exit fee which she says was right at the time, hence no overchargement on my exit fee, surely if banks were overcharging, sub-prime lenders charges would of been higher, anyway needless to say, I cant prove thats what I paid and thats what my contract states as I dont have the documentation.
Does anybody know if this does only apply to banks?? would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on this.

If £115 was what you agreed to there is nothing to claim.

Thanx Andy for giving me yr time. I feel silly not knowing what I agreed to and will just have to put it down to experience.

You didn't make a mistake. You paid a £115 exit fee which is very reasonable. Problem solved.

I think there may be some misunderstanding, what I meant by mistake, was that, in future I will keep all documentation so as I know what I have agreed to and wont make the mistake of assuming without having the documentation to prove the agreement
