Technophobe looking for an ipod!!

Options
Hubby has told me I can have an ipod for my birthday so (being the mser that I am) have been looking around to find the best deals.

Yikes, just how many is there to choose from. I really do not need one to play videos but would like to be able to plug it into one of those players you can take around with you (docks?) but that also charges it (are they for 'proper' ipods only?)

Will a 'generic' MP3 player do the same thing as an ipod? I would like to be able to choose the albums like my friend is able to on hers, I have an MP3 player but I canno choose what I want to listen to.

So, someone please tell me what I need and where I can get it at the best price.

Sainsbury have an Ipod Nano (I think) for £108 with £15 itunes vouchers at the moment. is that a good deal?

Much help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That seems a pretty good deal to me.

A few months ago i got an Ipod fro £108 from Argos for my OH's special birthday with a £15 voucher and a free Wharfedale docking station.
when is your birthday and when does Sainsburys offer end. It might be worth waiting till just before the offer ends then checking Argos.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

If you have Nectar points why not use them towards an ipod classic 120gb, it will hold hundreds of CD's, probably well over 1000 CD's actually and it is the best thing I have ever bought.

Tesco have a gear4 streetparty size 0 (half price at £25) which is great for holiday balcony listening with a glass or three of wine. It works on batteries and also on mains, when on mains it charges the ipod too.

Putting music onto it is childs play, download itunes. put a cd in, itunes asks if you want to copy it into the library, click yes, job done. Oh you need to be online really to get track listings and cover art.

You can download music from itunes store once you have an account to pay for it, also it is easy enough from amazon too.

    HTH.

Just remembered seeing a few of the 'old' ipod 80gb and 160gb in morrisons reduced a bit but I do not know if they are as good as the new 120gb one.

stw, do you mention Nectar because of the points or is there a deal going on.

When you say the new and the old ones, if there a difference?

I'll have more of a look tonight when I've got the kids into bed, did not want to post and disappoear for hours. Thanks for all of the help, I shall read the reviews later tanglefoot.

OK, if you're a technophobe I'd avoid iPods. I find them incredibly un-user friendly. DD1 had a philips version 5+ years ago which is still going strong, and much easier to navigate.

    Have a good birthday :)

Thanks creased, will this work with the speakers with the docking station? Are they just for ipods or is it just a generic term they use?

I've found the calassic on Tesco.com with Quidco and 500 CC points. The streetparty speaker is out of stock now.

I am so confused, LOL. I'd say it is for my birthday but everyone will use it. nice!! Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Hi OP. With 3 techno kids and me, we love our ipods. My advice is simple, go for as much hard disk space as you can get. You say you don't need it for videos but that may change in an instant. The ipod nanos are great but not enough space means constant swapping of tunes/videos.

Get 120gb minimum, 160gb is better, then whatever you put on it will always stay on it as you have plenty of space. The Ipod is the best and easiest to use, all the others are pretenders and all have their downsides.

i found the ipod incredibly easy to use.
open itunes, put in a disk, it snds it to itunes automatically
plug in the ipod, it goes there automatically too.

no buttons to press - job done in seconds
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
