Ryder Cup rental

Options
Hi everyone, I though I would post this on here to get as many people to look at it as possible (I know there is already a similar thread to this somewhere).. I am thinking about renting out my house for the Ryder cup next year as I live close by. Has anyone managed to get an actual booking or know of someone who has? I am asking this as I can't figure out whether these rental websites are a scam or not and I need proof before proceeding, any feedback would be much appreciated!

Thanks everyone

I have done it when the Open has been in Troon as I used to live near there.

I found that the rental sites took a huge commission. What I did was post on golfers forums. There was no charge and no middleman.

It is tax avoidable if you are staying in the property when it is let. Make it a nice package, breakfast, evening meal, packed lunch. Drive them to and back from the course so they avoid parking charges. Remember your clients will be out all day from early morning until late evening so it is no real inconvenience.

A site promises you great wealth by promoting your property if you pay them £100 ? They are not totally biased then from their base in Nass in eire :)

X 100 people who bite their bait and they have a nice 10k profit.

That's what I am worried about, I wanted to find at least a couple of people who have successfully rented out for the Ryder cup as I am not wasting £100 on advertising my home if there is no chance of getting it rented.

I know that a lot of these websites are the ones making money and not the homeowners, also the amounts people are charging for there houses seem to be unrealistic, £15K for a house for 9 nights? They could rent a house for 6 months for half that anywhere in the area.

hmmm, not sure whether to bother or not.

    What an intersting first post.

The company you mention do of course charge almost £100 to list don't they

Of course most of them are going to charge a fee - why else would they be in the business???? We went with them because they are naturally No.1 for search terms on Google like "ryder cup accommodation" and "ryder cup house rental" hence, possible ryder cup attendees not knowing what company deals with ryder cup accommodation simply searches that term and hit my property first. At least this is how my husband explained it. This is why I think we received a booking.

You are right smurggle, £95 is a lot of money. Which is why you need to know that you place your ad on a website that will be seen by the most amount of possible ryder cup attendees

    .

But do those properties really exist or are they just placed there to draw in the mug advertisers at £100 a pop?

Call me a cynic (or maybe I am just a sceptic) but I always get suspicious when people who have never posted on these forums before suddenly appear and speak in glowing terms about web sites which are money making ventures.

Maybe ring every number that is with each listing??? See if they are really advertising a real property? I take your point though - I stumbled across this post and wanted to give my 2 pence because I have experience in this issue and wanted to help.
There are interesting statistics on their 2006 Ryder Cup page though you might want to read too smurggle

    I don't know how far away the event is, but there's bound to be loads of cash-rich Americans coming over, so;

Find out what the American golf magazines are, and place an advert there.

If these magazines have websites that accept advertising, place adverts there.

e-mail golf clubs around Boston, New York and other cities on this side of America

Have you thought of providing accommodation to the golfers, their caddies, any staff that may be travelling with them? Write to the participating golfers via their business managers - even if the team has its own accommodation, they may be looking to bring friends, family, and business associates.

e-mail the professional and amateur golfing associations over there, see if they'll pass on your details within their organisations

    etc etc

Get resourceful. Think out of the box, and beyond merely advertising with one website or agency.

Coincidence or what here a Vanessa gets £14000 for letting out her house in Ireland for the 1986 Ryder Cup. Through a company run by the same people as the one mentioned by the poster VAnessa .

Well done sir, I knew I was right to be sceptical but couldn't find the proof. Your investigative skills put mine to shame.

Always too good to be true when someone who has never posted before appears telling us all about a wonderful web site.

Look at the prices they want, their a bit greedy aren't they?
