On JSA but Signed off!

Hi,
My son is on JSA, but he has been signed off unfit for work and therefore can't get JSA, what can he get instead? He has left home (yipee) is 19, living in rented accomodation ( that is normally paid directly - Housing benefit), but obviously he needs money for food & electric meeter.

this happened to me as im due to go for an operation so unfit for work. i went into my local job centre and they filled in a form and gave me a number to call so i can change from jsa to benefits until im fit for work. he should still get money, he will just need to change to benefits until he is fit for work. when you call they tell you what your entiltled to, hope this helps

Thanks . Don't suppose you know the name of the benefit or the form do you.

I guess quite a few people must go through the same thing.

Its incapacity benefit or whatever the new name for it is

He will need to claim ESA, employment and support allowance. He needs to ring the same number he would of when he claimed JSA. Sooner he rings sooner they will take his claim. He also needs to make sure he signs off JSA to recieve his final payment.
