    OK, I've booked myself in with a broker that seems to be big in Scotland, First Mortgages.

    What questions should I ask when I'm there to be sure they don't just stick me on the mortgage that earns them the most commission?

    Ask them to show you the mortgage provider's illustration which will clearly state their commission to him/her.

    My advisor did just that without asking - showed me 3 options and all of them were giving pretty much the same.
