Raffling your home

Options
Has anyone successfully raffled off their property? I recently read stories online about a couple who are currently doing so in Canterbury via a website they have set up (https://www.winahouseforafiver.co.uk) and it got me thinking. You simply have to answer a multiple-choice question and then pay £5 to enter.

We have been trying to sell our house since April and have had real problems with all the estate agents we have encountered so are looking for a solution that does not involve them. This would prevent having to pay them fees too which is a bonus. So we wondered if anyone had any tips, suggestions or warnings about offloading your home in this way... or any knowledge of the legal implications. All replies gratefully received.

I think you have to check out for gambling laws and also require an independent auditor to oversee the process.

You will need some T&Cs to stipulate the minimum amount of tickets to be sold for the "raffle" to be conducted.

why dont you just advertise the property yourself in for example,

    Local paper
    Loot
    property websites

The people I know that do this often sell.

  • Hi Jamie

I'm in the same position, I've been trying to sell my property since April too. The bottom of the market seems to have fallen through the floor here in Cornwall at present, and I too have wondered about the ins and outs of selling a property this way. I've emailed the site you mentioned (thanks for link) and I'm awaiting further details of how to sell my house... I'll keep you posted!

I have privately advertised my property too via local/London newspapers and internet with no success either.

    Regards
  • Have a look at the gaming board web site. There are many constraints in place with regard to raffles and lotteries, but the information is there if you look hard enough.

Thanks for that info all of you & I will check out the gambling area.

And thanks to Boxochocs too for a bit of moral support. The market has definitely slowed here in Reading and the prices of some houses have come down more than £10k in some areas - we've even dropped the price with no luck, yet many other properties ARE selling. It is so disheartening to not even be getting any viewings at the moment. I know they say it's hoilday season and many people are away (but it's very tiring and time-consuming keeping the house like a showhome every day, just in case someone wants to see it!).
I say what I like, I like what I say!
