Are you sure ? Id like to agree with you but I dont think there is any hard evidence to back this up.
SJP has one American fund, one Far East fund etc. Surely an IFA with access to all funds would be able to build a better portfolio? What an IFA can certainly do is source a cheaper option than SJP/tied agents .
Isn't that better?0 -

Sort of back fired if it is.
There won't be simply mild 'back firing' caused by me if my case falls out of the FOS's jurisdiction as the SJP smugly appear to believe....
Until that has been ascertained I'll say no more other than, in my experience, you should avoid this company like the plague!0 -

So, I just would like to ask folk what kind of reputation St James's has? Any other happy /unhappy customers who would like to share their thought before i hand over my money (and trust)?
Are there any rivals I should check out before committing?
I'm grateful for any advice you can share.
Thanks
St James Place are not IFS's.
Part of a March publication is as follows .....
[ St James's Place has taken on two directors of a firm which was recently fined £28,000 for failing to provide suitable advice.
The regulator found that the firm failed to make and retain records which demonstrated the suitability of its advice in accordance with regulatory requirements.
St James's Place, which is 40 per cent owned by HBOS, currently has 1,340 partners. The company has previously come under attack from Sifa for promoting itself as being able to receive referrals from solicitors, even though, under Law Society rules, only whole of market advisers can gain such referrals. ]
I suggest that you look REAL IFA's and not anyone tied who can not consider all possibilities to offer a client seeking good advice.
SamI'm a retired IFA who specialised for many years in Inheritance Tax, Wills and Trusts. I cannot offer advice now, but my comments here and on Legal Beagles as Sam101 are just meant to be helpful. Do ask questions from the Members who are here to help.0 -
This is thinly-veiled spam for St James Place it seems
No it is not! I simply asked for some advice, which I'm very grateful to everyone for. The replies are unanimous, and as I said before, "--seems I really should see a IFA." Not sure why I would say that if I was spamming!
I asked for advice because I have not really had a sum to invest before, or dealt with IFAs or outfits like SJP. I just had a recommendation from friends which I wanted to check out further. It stuck me that 400,000 was a lot of misinformed people, and maybe some folk are happy with them. But maybe not.
I'll be paying for a real IFA. Thanks again.0 -

Not really. They have very slick marketing. It's a bit like the old Allied Dunbar or Abbey Life salesforce. Quality literature and slick and highly motivated sales people selling to people who generally don't know what they want or what the limitations and issues are when you go with a tied salesforce.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
