Will the rates go down when we start paying water charges?
I was working out my charges from http://www.niwater.com/siteFiles/resources/pdf/Scheme%20of%20Charges%2009.PDF
and for a capital value house of £170000 the water charge would be £269.14. If I was connected to the mains sewer there would be an additional charge of £333.23 for sewerage - so £602.37 in total.
It will come as a nasty surprise to many people when they begin sending out the bills - next year?

Especially considering the huge leap in council tax over the last few years.

Dont forget revaluation takes place next year too. Not sure if this will be implemented in 2010/11 or 2011/12 rate bills - but it will be quite a hike too!
    Perhaps Cate could enlighten us?

They collected £940 million - and had a record number of people through the court system

Maybe if the Northern Ireland public paid their bills without trying to shy away from their public duty LPS staff wouldn't have to try to enforce them

How do you get blood out of a stone

No word on the re-val for next year - I think there is more of a chance on 100% rating on domestic properties regardless of occupation I know the consultation period is well over for it, so we'll see what our ministers decide about 2 days before it's due

I always thought the plan for domestic re-valuation was set for 2012 and haven't heard it mentioned - I know there's a huge commercial re-val currently in place, I think it's a big priority for the valuation office at the moment and has been a significant factor in the lack of bills for new builds over the past year or so

  • domestic reval is still planned for 2011 i believe.
The lists last for 4 years and from what i can tell from here
    lpsni.gov.uk/index/property_rating/valuation-of-property/valuation-lists.htm

the new list aka the 7th list will run from 1st April 2011 - 31st march 2015.

Also i believe that domestic vacant rating will come into effect with the new val list
