Working in Royal Mail - Application Process Questions

Hey guys,
I wonder if anyone has experiance of the application process at RM
I applyed online for the position of reserve postperson with driving F/T
I passed all the online stuff and went for the interview, which went well..
I then received this email..
Re: RML028445 - OPG Hertford PDO
We are delighted to confirm that you have passed your recent assessment and we are moving your application to the next stage. We are currently undertaking some initial checks and will contact you in the next few days to discuss your application further.
Im confused what this means.....
Am i being offered the job aslong as my checks come back ok?
or am i just on a short list with a few other applicants who also passed the assesment?
Also what checks are they making? because i was under the impression that they cant do any CRB checks unless a offer of employment had been made...
Can anyone advise me on this?, would be gratefull for some advise from others who have had similar experiances
Many Thanks
J

It sounds like your on the short list or your going to get offered the job subject to passing a crb check.
you will probably be offered a weeks training with a fdw other applicants then they will pick the best of the bunch.
and yes they are entitled to do a crb check before offering you the job, how else would they know if your suitable for the role0 -
did anyone ever actually find out what happened as i have recieved the exact same email today ?0
-
I can't be sure that that email means you have the job for sure but I can tell you that about a week and a half after receiving it I was called to be offered the job.0
-
yeah my partner had same email and about a week later got an email saying they were just doing his health checks and then a week later got an email saying he had the job - it was anoying because there was no one to call to chase or anything but from our experience no news was good news!Lloyds Loan - [strike]21,000[/strike] 19,800 Lloyds Overdraft - £17500

i got the same e-mail yesterday, then i went on the royal mail website to he my applications area and it said something like congratulations on your new job with royal mail and there was a new section that said job offers. this bit has since been removed tho. how long should i expect to wait before they contact me again?0

Did you guys end up getting the job? I got the same message today. I seems a bit strange to send you pdf broches on the induction and guides to working for royal mail and then not giving you the job!!!0
-
I started about 2 weeks after that e mail. One day induction then out with another postman for 4 days - then out by myself on the Saturday.0

Hi Gerbaluk,
May i ask how long after your interview with Royal Mail, that they got back in touch ? I had an interview on the 9th of Feb (Wednesday), getting on for 2 weeks and heard nothing yet !!!! I fear the worse. Many thx in advance...0 -
I'm talking at least 20 year ago when I started but RM are a special case as an employer as you are dealing with highly sensitive stuff, money, credit cards etc so they used to check you out.
Also sign the Official Secrets Act.
The union, CWU, were particularly useless and quite militant and your line managers are one day fellow postmen and then 'acted' up as management and put back down again when required so be careful of the brown nosers.
Best jobs are to try and work on your own as there was so much politics and unfairness.
Needs must in todays climate but I absolutely hated the place and couldn't quit soon enough.
I guess a lot has changed, or will be changing very soon, but it was like stepping back in time and I left in 2003.
Good luck.0 -
