    2 gears is good, better torque for screwing.

    14.4v is not really great these days for that sort of money I got an 18v Precision Power Pro drill from B&Q with 2 gears. I use it almost daily for everything from screws to 15mm masonary bit through cavity walls and it has been very reliable.

    IMO Black and Decker are the toy tool end of DeWalt, they are built to last for a few hours continuous use or VERY intermittent DIY use will last a few years. They are great if you only want to use for wood screws, but then you will get just as good for a tenner but not as fancy looking.

    I bought the a challenge set from argos six months ago in a 'sale'. I got a 18v cordless with two gears, a corded hammer drill and a 200 drill piece set. Yep it's not the best make but at £29.99 it went down a treat and I have no probs with it.
