Having a quick Google I found these ideas:

Take cans of beans with hot dogs, warm them up in a bowl in the microwave, then put them back in the tins and eat with a fork

Buy the actual meals they eat in the army, the ones you get in little foil trays. Or make your own and put them in those foil takeaway trays, so you can decide what's in them but think along the lines of mac and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs etc and call them field rations.

Make a batch of cupcakes, dye three bowls of icing in camouflage colours and just splodge the different colours on. Top each cupcake with a mini plastic army man toy

Not a food suggestion but you could get those little party favours that are little soldiers with a parachute attached, I used to love them :D
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
if you love him buy a cammo tablecloth and use normal food, if you really want to go the ration route you will need food that was best before 1998 and a load of tabasco sauce to make it edible...lol
you could give them the training menu which is a heavy fry up followed by a 3mile run :)
seriously why not get some small cardboard boxes and fill with some fruit cake chocolate bars, sausage roll/pasty, small tins of sausage&beans etc etc(the packet stuff is the pits) and head out to the woods with a camping stove and camo up for a game of hide and seek, enjoy your day.
