Getting a mortgage

Hello,

I'm just writing because with my Mrs we are planning to buy an house in 6/12 months and we would like to be ready with all the paperworks.

First of all, we are not UK Citizens. I'm EU (Registered on the Electoral Roll) and she is non-EU with a long term visa as my partner.

We arrived less than 2yrs ago and so far we managed to get bank accounts, credit cards (1k between 3 cards), a small overdraft, the usual bills (phone, internet, mobile, gas)...

My questions are:

1) how much should we be able to get? 3.5x our joint salary?
2) would be enough a 20% deposit?
3) what kind of documentation shall we produce? our bank statements are online, is this acceptable?
4) is there a limit on the amount we can pay based on our income? (e.g. payment on mortgage max 1/3 of joint disposable income)
5) how do you pick a reasonable mortgage broker? (apart from calling random numbers that you've got from the yellow pages)
6) being non-UK is it going to be a problem?

any other suggestions? thank you very much for any help that you could provide...

regards,

giruzz
