Self-employed and returning to the UK: need a mortgage

Hi,
We have lived in France for the last four years and are returning to the UK, where we would like to buy. We have a buyer for our house in France, and hope to be able to put down a 20% deposit on a house in the UK. The hitch is that I'm self-employed. I've had solid income in each of the last three years, but of course this is in France so I have no UK audited/certified accounts to show.
So, I have two questions:
1. Are we likely to be able to get a mortgage that fits our specific situation?
2. Can anyone recommend a good whole-of-market broker (either through personal experience or that of someone you know) who is experienced in dealing with self-employed mortgage applicants? I've spent hours browsing the internet, but there are so many out there who claim to be good that it's hard to see the wood for the trees.
(I hope there isn't a rule that you're not supposed to ask for/give recommendations. Apologies in advance if there is. If anyone has a recommendation, feel free to PM me.)
Thanks in advance,
Rob

The bank will need to be confident that you will have an income once you're in the UK - are you going to be doing the same sort of work here? Does your type of work allow you to continue with the customer base you already have or will you be starting from scratch?0

Hi beecher,
Thanks for your reply. Good question – I should have been clear about that. My plan is to carry on with the same work and the same client base. I'm a freelance translator, and all my work is done remotely via the Internet, so it shouldn't be a problem. I've checked this with other translators who have successfully moved back from France to the UK and kept their existing clients.

That sounds more straightforward so hopefully you'll be ok. With any luck someone who knows will be about to give you better help. In the meantime why don't you ask your colleagues if they have used a broker you could use? Alternatively ask friends/family for recommendations. Good luck.0
