2 Different Posts, 1 Department, 1 Closing Date

Hi,
There are two jobs going in one department that I have seen interests me.
One is a full time, advertised "administrative worker" position. The other is a part time "assistant administrative worker" position. Is it wrong to apply for both jobs when they will be looked over by the same people in the same department both with the same closing date?
The skills and experiences requirements match for both with the obvious exception that one is assisting the other. The obvious differences are the hours (p/t for assistant) and pay.
I meet the requirements for both of them and could manage financially with the assistant one, as well as taking the time to pursue other avenues in my spare time to build up my CV.
Could any employers give recommendations on how these applications would be seen? And how, if they both should be applied for, to be different in the personal statement section.
Thank you!

Do you need to send a CV + cover letter or an application? And are you sending them to the exact same person?
If you need to do a cover letter, you could apply to the one job, and at the end say you would also like to be considered for the other.
I imagine there would be quite a few people who are interested in both positions. I imagine if it is the same person doing the hiring they would just interview you once and consider you for both.0 -
Thank you for your reply.
No, it is via an online application form. I was just worried they would question why I was applying for the lesser paid one and less hours one if I thought I was experienced for the full time one and had applied for that?0 -
Tricky one but I would apply for both and then, at interview if you get that far, discuss the reasons why you have gone for both rather than just the one. I would say that you are equally interested in both posts, but stress the differences, for example - one would be more of a challenge that you would really look forward to but equally the p/t assistant post would allow you to spend time pursuing other interests - like a college course that would help you to further your career.0

I think the fact that you are going for both and not putting all your eggs in one basket shows that you are sensible and good at decision-making. And probably some other qualities that an employer might appreciate.0

It could also be seen though as hedging your bets - ie not sure if your up to doing the main job so also applying for the assistants role.0
