Is there any website with N.Ireland news from 1909?

Hi! I am hoping you can help me, I am after news and archives from 1909...I have searched on the web and can not get anything N.ireland.

I am after music, news cost of living etc... for a lovely lady's 100th birthday. I am hoping to make her a book with news of each decade that she has lived through.

You need to go to the central library in Belfast. They keep old newspapers on microfilm might have moved to disc now, or even in bound books. You can trawl through them at your lesiure. And photocopy.

Northern Ireland did not exist in 1909 so you may have to adapt your search parameters

The record office might also be a good source - I think they also now have some of their info online

This might not fit in with what you are planning bit the 1911 Irish census is online and really easy to search at http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

You might be able to find a bit about her family at that time.

Good luck, it is a really nice idea for a birthday present!

Irishgirl62, you should visit the public records office in Balmoral avenue, Belfast. They will be your best bet of getting records for 1909. To the best of my knowledge most of the islands records were burnt in the Bombing at Four Courts Dublin in 1922, but fortunately Belfast also held some records, so you should start there.

Thank you so much everyone for your input... I am struggling now with irish music of 1909 found a hit of 1909 which was sweet chariot carry me home...by the fisk jubilee singers and fascinated at the history behind the song as I know it and never thought of the reason why or what the song was except it was a gospel song! but I still would love to find an irish or uk hit of that year and cannot seem to find it! time is running out as I have the box made typed out articles to be printed into her book bought a 1909 penny, couldnt get an irish cent.... really enjoyed doing this as I learnt so much along the way!

What area are you talking about? I know that the Newry Reporter has a paragraph of local news from 100 years ago in every issue. Also 50 years ago and 25 (or is it 30?) years ago. It might be worth giving them a bell on Monday to see if they could help. It has been going since 1867 and concentrates on the Newry & Mourne area and also encompasses south Armagh and Co.Louth.
