Just fitted the Tap Magic fittings today, very easy job and they do exactly what they say on the tin, superb! Looking forward to the next water bill in a perverse way to see what impact we have made!:D
Thanks to all for the tips. Going to have a think about what else I can do now......:rotfl:0 -
I think we should draw up a list of MSE tips - no matter how small.
It's surprising how much I learn from old threads being replied to on herem and all the tips could easily be compiled into a webpage or newsletter!Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
I have not been on here for a while and thought I would update this thread, in case anyone was remotely interested!
I originally posted in July last year and am just kind of reviewing the steps we took and seeing what has transpired. Of course best intentions don't always run smooth and we have yet to renovate our kitchem and replace our decrepid windows, which WILL be done this year come hell or high water.
Of all the other measure we have taken, the effects are starting to show. Our electricty use has fallen from 29 units per day to just 16 units per day on average which is a very good saving. That was up to our first winter bill and made in comparison with the year before, so be interesting to see if that dramatic fall has continued after the next winter bill comes through around springtime.
Our water consumption has also fallen dramatically, from an average of 81 cubic metres to 70 cubic metres in a six month period up to the end of Autumn, so that is our high peak seaosn for water with more showers and garden watering during the summer. I think the bulk of that saving has been the eco-shower fitting and the tap fittings and better habits.
Still have more to do and to a degree, family life and changes have meant we have taken ouor eye off the ball a bit of late, but we are getting back on track again now. If we can make similar savings again, I will be very pleased and so will our bank account!:beer:0 -
Hi There
Not sure if you need any more tips from the look of the posts here.
What we do is
1. Compost
2. Grow our own veg - less food miles and chemicals
3. Harvest rain water - for the garden watering
4. Keep rainwater bucket in loo for using to "flush" non solid waste
5. Forage - free food, natures bounty
6. Use eco friendly cleaning products
7. Buy from charity shops so that you give to needy causes and reuse
8. Car share twice a week - saving a fortune on petrol
9. Walk not drive ( or cycle) short distances
10. Love the leftovers - reduce thrown out rotten food due to better household management
11. Put a jumper on - not the heating
12. Turn off lights, appliances etc when not in use
13. use freecycle - for giving and getting stuff
14. recycle properly
There are more but i am getting a mental block
