Also, if you have a DIY type store nearby, ask them for their old wallpaper cut offs - these are very useful for art projects! A shop near my old school was closing down and they gave me huge books of wallpaper samples, all different colours, textures etc - it was amazing and the kids loved it!

    :jGood luck for September!
I would put a poster in your classroom window telling parents what you are covering in class & ask for resources that could be donated. Parents love to be involved and they are very resourceful and if they can't help they will chat to other parents who may be able to help out
Have a look at Sparklebox & TES resources on the internet - invaluable for resources & ideas.:j

Forgot to say find the local centre for education that has stuff donated from local businesses etc...
We have GRUMPY in Greater Manchester, check out the site, it may give you some ideas and help you to find your local centre.

Sad to say Matt987106 - this will happen even in well-funded schools. Heads have to be careful with money. We were told before the end of term that funding next year is tight as a lot of it's going towards a much needed computer suite so we are really having to be resourceful

  • I agree with the recommendations to try FreeCycle - I have given away all my daughter's old board games, art materials and books to the two primary teachers who advertise on our local group. I'm sure you will get loads of offers for help if you place a wanted ad.
It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. My daughter is just about to start her last of 4 years at Uni and will, hopefully begin at her first school next year. I have mailed her a link to this so hopefully she will look and make notes.

    hi there
good luck for Sept, it'll be here before you know it! I often have to pay for things for school myself, though I do sometimes get money back.
One tip is to buy cheap cutlery trays (got mine 48p each at Ikea) and use those as organisers on each table for pens etc. Cheaper than pen pots perhaps and space for more things.
