Pension gets smaller???

Hi all, is it the norm in the current "credit crunch" that pensions (mine anyway) go down at all in the last year? Having paid around £1200 into the pension and seeing it fall since last years figure by £340 just doesn't sit right with me.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks Paul.

  • Your pension will be invested in such things as bonds, shares, funds, etc, whose performance will vary with the value of the underlying assets.

In the last year it's unlikely that pension funds (unless they are totally cash-based) would have done anything else but go down as that's what's happened all over the world.

A pension is just the pot, how it performs depends on what investments are contained in the pot.

    Hope this helps.

yes its natural and if you want your money to have any hope of beating inflation you have to accept that it will fall in the short term.
