I just phoned Red and they told me that I couldn't cancel the 6 issues for £1 before the minimum 12 months was over, and they'd take the full payment if I tried?! Does that sound right? The guy did sound a bit braindead.

Why not just say 12 issues for £17, instead of 6 for £1 THEN 6 for £16?

There's nothing stopping you cancelling a direct debit no matter what they say.
