Ahh wow, it was interesting reading this thread! I am in the exact same position as you, well kind- I am actually already working in the NHS but applied for this job about 3 months ago (with the local council) as its a funded training on the job to social work degree and my dream!
I had my interview last week but only found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago so haven't even told my employer now that I'm only 9 weeks pregnant and certainly wasn't going to tell an interviewer- I want to have my scan etc... first to see if everythings okay!
I loved reading what the company's response was to you- I am only hoping it would be the same for me? I am also willing to give up the SMP I am entitled to with the NHS for MA allowance I would receive in the new position. Although I only work 18 hours a week now so am thinking there won't be much difference in the amounts anyway? Unless I've worked it out wrong
Congrats to you on all fronts :j:j0 -
I'm really pleased it all worked out for you sofietrouble. You're lucky to have found such lovely employers.
Best of luck with the job and the baby. If you want a chat, there's a pregnancy thread on the Families board, and you're more than welcome to join us on the Parents Club thread which is also in the families section. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Well I rang up the company and said I would love to accept their job offer, but I thought I should also let them know that I am pregnant.
Straightaway the HR lady said 'That's great. Are you able to come in to do your induction tomorrow at 9am? Kevin (that's the agency guy) did mention that you were pregnant, you can tell me your plans for your maternity leave after the induction and we can organise everything then?'
I felt so shocked... and a bit silly for all that worrying also. Can't believe they are so fine about me being pregnant and wanting to go on maternity leave!!
As it turns out, I will be entitled to maternity allowance, and will take 9 months off after the birth. Though I am enjoying this job so much, I may be tempted to come back sooner, if my husband can organise to be there to look after the baby as well whilst it is still really little.
So if you are pregnant and job hunting, don't give up hope! Pregnancy isn't a terminal illness and shouldn't put off any employer as long as you can do your job with no risk to yourself or the baby.
Thanks everyone for all the advice on here, al the different views have made interesting reading!). Like I said long term it wouldn't be an issue for me - the long term staying around likelihood would be a positive for us.
