I think the cards are a good idea for convienance. Ive been bought many vouchers before and ended up out shopping spending money in a store knowing I have vouchers at home but have forgotten them etc. At least you can keep the card in your purse.

I sent my MIL a Boots gift card last year as our local one didn't sell the vouchers any more. I was very concerned that it wouldn't reach her as it was so obvious that there was a card in the envelope. Thankfully it did get there. When it was my birthday MIL sent me a Boots voucher (the "old" sort) - I was really surprised but she said her local branch still sold them! That was a while ago though so I bet they don't sell them anymore! I like the fact that if you don't spend the exact amount on the card you can leave the rest of the money on there, but as other posters have said, they're not exactly good for the environment. And surely less secure in the post!
