Online orders refunded by cheque

Can anyone advise?
I recently returned some items I ordered online from Debenhams- returned by courier. I received an email confirming my refund had been completed so I did not make a payment to the credit card I had used.
When by credit card bill arrived, the refund had not been received. When I chased this with Debenhams they told me that had sent a cheque as a refund which can take 3 weeks to arrive! Hence I had to pay the interest charges on the credit card.
I have written to Debenhams to ask for a refund of the interst charges but they have refused, even though when I called the first time to ask about my refund, the person I spoke to gave me the address to write to, to claim a refund. I want to pursue this with Debenhams, but am I wasting my time?:mad:

I am sure they have to refund the credit card. You have the equivalent of cash back which is not allowed.
You may be able to dispute the payment with your credit card company.0 -
I've never been refunded by cheque, it has always been a direct refund onto the card I payed with...very odd.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0
