Need some advice please

Hi,
Ive been thinking about getting a morgage for a while, but old debts have heen hampering my attempts. Ive payed all of my outstanding debts well over a year ago, well all apart from one. This one debt isnt mine, thats the thing. Littlewoods say I supposedly owe them a couple of hundred pounds, which has now been passed onto a debt company, but ive never opened a littlewoods account in my life.

After numerous phonecalls to littlewoods and the debt company, who both say certain items were delivered to the address that I lived at the time I decided to get the police involved at the request of both companies as there might have been some form of identity fraud, but the police were no help at all saying that a crime hadnt taken place because I didnt have anything physically stolen from me, I.E. money.

Ive even had lawyers send letters to try and get physical evidence that I signed for items, which included a pair of CAT boots and a pair of Timberland boots (brands which I have never owned), a pair of curtains (im a 25 year old man, I dont think my girlfriend would trust me buying curtains) and a couple of other items, and this was supposedly back in 2005 but they say they dont keep proof like signatures. Im at my wits ends, but I aint paying a penny, but at the moment that seems to be the only way to get this black mark off of my credit report.

Any advice would be gratefull

Hi There have you been on Experian to check your report. You can sign up for a month free then cancel before they take first payment. That may show if anybody else has been trying to use your details for a loan etc. Just an idea.

Make a formal complaint to Littlewoods and when that fails ge the OFT, the Information Commisioner and trading Standards. They may wake up at that point.

  • First off thanks for replying so quick. I signed up to experian about 18 months ago when sorting my debts out, plus ive recently signed up with exuifax to get a credit report. Cant remember much about the experian one, but there has been no sign of anyone trying to get loans, but one funny thing did happen to me a couple of weeks ago. I got a phone call on my mobile phone from some accidental injury claim company saying my request for help had been denied as I was from a different country. I told the lady I had never tried to claim anything. She then comfirmed my name and mobile telephone number, but a fake email address. I asked her to pass any details to me as it might help me in this case, but she said she was unable.

I think I will make a formal complaint to littlewoods and also go to my local MP as since I posted my problem, I found a couple of other posts on forums with people with the exact same problem and that seemed to help.

    Thanks very much
