Morrisions bread prices

In the past month I've noticed bread rise from 72p, to 87p around two weeks ago and today I walked in and it was 99p for the standard loafs. That is only 10p cheaper than freshly baked ones!

The Value bread has risen from 38p to 50p. Have the other stores followed as bread prices seem to be the same at most supermarkets?

Seems the same everywhere, the price is diabolical. But saying that I pay for the premium bread usually fresh baked, it one of the things I won't buy from the basics ranges :o

Tesco Value bread is 47p, and a standard loaf is 75p at present.

Prices rise and fall often if wheat prices change.

I've always found their bread to be reasonably priced - 70p to 99p for many of the freshly (sic) baked loaves. And the loaves I buy haven't gone up in price.

99p seems cheap for a loaf compared to many places.

(Caveat - I am used to having to pay £2.25 or more for a decent Jewish/German loaf so my opinion may be skewed.)

The global cost of wheat has shot through the roof I recall from another thread. This for once isn't "ripoff Britain" but just a consequence of the world market.

I'm talking about the bagged Morrisons standard bread. It was 72p for more than six months, possibly longer if I recall, pretty much most of last year. Then two price rises in as many weeks seems a bit bad. Especially as the branded bread is only about 20p more.

We know, we can read

If you don't want to pay the inflated price, don't, no-one is forcing you. Try making your own bread for 72p, you'll soon realise how cheap (and convenient) the standard loaf is in comparison.

Rathbones is £1.20 on BOGOF, which is a good deal but we didn't need two loaves. I know costs are increasing and I'll pay the price, that I don't mind, it was more a question aimed at other supermarket shoppers to see if the rises had occured there.

I've not tried Rathbones so will have a look later on when shopping, for £1.20 for 2 loaves you could always freeze 1, which I will be doing .
