The only costs that I can see that can immediately be looked at are:
- rent
- car (both already been mentioned)
- moble phone - not much you cn do if you are tied in to a contract, but you should be able to get LOTS better than £40 a month for a deal where you don't go over your free texts and minutes, unless you use like 2000mins a month or something. E.g. I pay £30 a month (cashbacks make it £18 a month but I pay £30 a month to start and get the cashbacks querterly) and for that I got 500 mins and 100 texts. I never go over this each month. If you aren't bothered about which phone you have particularly you should be able to get a free phone, free line rental and loads of minutes and texts!!!
Apart from that, you might need to go into a lot more detail on the smaller things if you want more help, thats usually where the savings are found:
-bills?
-Council tax?
-broadband?
- sky tv?
- going out?
- subscriptions?
etc etc

Thanks for reading my thread. ill start with answers to your questions..
I live and work in essex (No City), Drive to work, about 45 miles per day total.. All loan payments are fixed really.
The ex girl is ex girlfriend.. We had borrowed money to lease into running a pub, didn but used the loan half each in our own things. (consolidating debts)
Car insuance is up for renewal at the end of month, but have a claim due to car being stolen. Phone is contract but have found this to be cheaper as it is only form of communication outside of e-mail (Can't use land line)
Think i got all your questions covered there...
What do you think... pretty messed up!!!!
This 'ex girl' loan...is your ex paying half and you're paying half or are you paying it all off or is she giving you money towards it each month. I am suspecting that you have taken the loan out in your name and although she's had half, you are the one paying the lot back?
I am also assuming that for £300 per month for a room (which IMO is ridiculously high and yes, I have lived in Essex and currently living in London) this inlcudes all bills, council tax etc? Whereabouts in Essex are you living and where in Essex do you work? I rented a room in Wickford in a rather nice area for £220 pcm all bills inc. Only thing was the landlady was a total nightmare psycho woman but nevermind!
Give us more info and we can help you more.
What about food, clothes, socialising...?

Hi all, Sorry for all the late reply's
Am currently a Duty Manager for a restaurant, but used to be a Manager in restaurant in reading but after 2 years there decided i wanted to be back in essex.
I have an interview next week for a loan salesman. pay is less but more socialable hours, so will be able to get part time job chefing to earn the extra cash needed, and have loads of sales bonuses to get out of debt. (fingers cossed)
Loan with ex is in her name so i pay here every month.. I dont have to pay for any bills or council tax, no sky tv, i go out for a proper night out once a month to see a band, but might go to pub once a week/ fortnight but drive so don't spend much there..
I live in Rayleigh in essex, so a little more expensive than Wickford. Unfortunately couldn't move to wickford... Used to be the Manager at the Harvester there and the Lovely Travellers didn't like me to much. Shame!!!! (But i like my life too much). I barred them from the pub (about 70 in total, so they pretty much barred me from wickford). Ah well!!!
I probably spend about £20 a week on food, but eat a lot at work (perk). Only buy clothes on a need to basis. I make them last.
Sorry for the essay, a lot of questions!!!

Well, you could still find cheaper dwellings. Check out local newspaper and https://www.easyroommate.com (click on UK section). If you're willing to go into smaller room you could easily save another £100 a month. Since you work unsociable hours, you don't need a huge room as you're not there much?
Maybe you have a mate you could move in with?
