outfit advice for MOB outfit

My mum is having real difficulty deciding what on earth she can wear to my wedding. The trouble is that whenever she goes looking ,once she tells the assistant what the occasion is she is directed towards the wedding outfits/MOB ranges, which she absolutely hates.Florals and frills are just not her at all.
She does feel that she has to look weddingy and like a MOB but I just want her to feel comfortable. My mum usually has amazing taste and dress sense and she is a very good looking little lady.If she just wears something thats her she will look fantastic.Mum has a kind of art student/fashion student approach to clothes and it always looks amazing when she puts stuff together you wouldnt necessarily see going together in your head. The kids call her their trendy gran.
She does dress younger than she is and it suits her.I dont want her to buy a "granny" outfit just because she thinks she has too.
Does a anyone have any advice on a place to shop preferably in Glasgow, maybe aimed at a sophisticated/fun 30+ age group rather than 50+ where she might find something or at least some inspiration for an outfit.
Oh forgot to say, preferably somewhere with a petite range although stuff can be taken up.

The common thing for a lot of my MOB's is shift dresses and little jackets. Could she look at something like that and then find a silk jacket?

Black is okay too isnt it?Mum wears black a lot and usually has some bright flash of colour somewhere.Maybe a black or dark grey shift dress and bright jacket and shoes?
I dont see any reason for her to wear anything other than she knows suits her and her usual colours are black, red, dark greens."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
Monsoon will be a good place to get a beautiful shift dress. Absolutely tell her to get a nice jacket and shoes or cover up. Perfect for a wedding! She needs to wear what she feels comfortable in, not what she thinks she should wear (or else you will tell from her face!).0

Yep, black would be fine. Have a look at ideas here http://www.linearaffaelli.be/catalog.php?selection=cocktail&lang=en0

My darling mother is threatening to wear burnt orange or turquoise for the event!
If she keeps it up, she'll be wearing a garbage bag. lol
My colour scheme is red, black & white - bridesmaids are in black, me in white...Mum can pull off black, but may have to concede to a small flash of turqouise for her for the big day.
Interesting thing is, we need to shop in Australia for an outfit for a British WINTER wedding....any suggestions of MOB outfits that will keep 'Her Royal Highness Queen of Sarcasm' warm and even tempered would be greatly appreciated.0 -
i think the outfit my mum is looking at is black and cream....its looks lovely and isnt mob-ish at all, its very her
I think the most important think is for everyone to be comfortable, they shouldnt do anything they arent happy with
for instance.....everyone seems to think mob and mog should wear a hat.......my mum hates hats, so there is not a chance in the world that she will wear one lol
i just want her to be happy and enjoy my day
where does your mum normally shop...maybe that would be a good start for her outfit?Married on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -
That's the problem Yellowbug, because she's going to be shopping in Sydney, all of the fabrics are going to be lighter weight and not at all suitable for a british winter environment (we Aussie's think that it's cold when it gets down to 11 degrees and drag out the winter coats!).
Anyone have any recommendations of online stores?0 -

I love the page with the ssilver/black and the olive/black outfits.Silver jacket possibly still too frilly for mum but those are lovely.(Too expensive though).
Thanks Yellowbug,

She usually shops in charity shops, and buys lovely things, but I am trying to get her to buy a never worn before outfit for the wedding.Whatever it is Mum would never dream of paying full price(quite rightly so) so it would have to be an absolute bargain.I will suggest she looks at the Monsoon sale."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
