Confused!

Below, apparently is the answer to pretty much all our economic worries.

"When the banks start lending again, everything will get better."

What a sad reflection on the modern world we have created for ourselves!

It's not just about lending to consumers, it's about cashflow for businesses. Many businesses don't get paid for 90 days after providing a service or product and they need loans to ensure they can pay staff. There can be a domino effect when companies go down and can't pay their own suppliers.

    Credit isn't all bad.

Sorry.. I am sure I am just being naive.. But what’s wrong with the business having a little bit of capital behind them. After all that’s what the banks have realised lately.

Why is a sensible level of lending to people and businesses a 'sad reflection on the modern world'?

And are you named after the dwelling in which many chose to live, or the US-medical drama starring Hugh Laurie?

Nothing wrong with having a little bit of capital behind them, which the vast majority do. Then sensible levels of credit to ensure they can operate and expand their business.

Just like in your life, you will hopefully have a sensible amount of capital to buy food, small goods and services and then you might require sensible levels of credit to buy a house or car (or a couple of BTL investment vehicles, of course).

    O. As long as we are sensible. Silly me, of course you are right.

Neither... It just came to me! I have never been a fan of Hugh Laurie, he is very much overrated. Don't you think?

This 'sensible' word. Is it actually in the dictionary anymore?

Dunno really, only ever seen him in 'A Bit of Fry and Laurie'. Used to quite like that as a kid. And I once queued behind him at passport control at an airport, but can't say I can judge him artistically based on that.

Another thread pulled off course. Fancy a chat about cheese?

Not if you believe the media. I would imagine that there are millions of businesses out there that borrow sensibly though, yes.
