42" Tv - plasma or LCD

I am after a 42" Tv - use with sky+ box and DVD player...maybe a freesat box in near future.

cant decide between the HD ready plasma screen or a LCD screen.

Also want to buy from John Lewis but they being fussy with me for price matching with Richer SOunds, as one model we seen was labelled 30, whereas JL call it model 3000.

Anyone use Richer Sounds - any views welcome?

thanks

Richer Sounds are good... and will usually match JL prices and terms including delivery and extended warranty if you push them enough.

  • I'd have no hesitation in buying from Richer Sounds.

I have a 42" plasma and use it for Blue Ray DVD playback through a PS3 and highly recommend it.

As a general rule of thumb anything much above 37" is deemed better in plasma than LCD. It's personal opinion really, but I think with plasma at 42" the scanning appears better and therefore you do not appear to get the shadowing on movements that you can get on LCD.

The thing is to compare in store side by side on DVD or Digital input (Sky) and make your choice then. Do not compare on a analogue input (ordinary TV aerial) as there will be degradation in the signal if more than one TV is connected.

Up to 37" choose LCD over that then go for Plasma, thats what I was told.
