in Cutting tax
My son started his business in august last year so its his first time at the whole tax thing!!!!!
We are a bit confused as to what he can and cant claim tax on. Can he for instance claim for laundering his towels (he has a hair salon) even if he hasnt any receipts (mother does them for him, but it still costs for electricity, wash tablets etc.) Also his window cleaner, he has no receipts there either. Should he get receipts for this stuff????? Sorry to sound so dumb, but we are real novices at this..................

The answer to all your questions is yes! It would however, be advisable to obtain receipts for the window cleaning (at least). As for washing towels, if you have receipts showing the cost of materials, make sure he has them to claim - together with all the cleaning materials etc etc which I'm sure are also required. You can also claim a reasonable amount for use of electricity and any other costs which you justifibly use.0

Go to your local Business Link and enquire what help they have in this area and whether they run any training courses to prepare for self assessment.0
