Tarnished / burnt pan lid help

Hi
The other day a stainless steel pan lid of mine got knocked onto a gas burner whilst lit and left for about 30 seconds. It's not bent or anything, but it is a burnt / tarnished pewter colour now, which I've not been able to get off so far.
It looks really messy and it's quite a new pan so I was hoping someone might have a good idea about how to restore the metal to its proper colour / finish
Any advice would be very much appreciated
Thanks

Soak it in a basin filled with biological washing powder dissolved in hot water for an hour and it will come off with a rub or brush .0

The other day very stupidly I turned on the wrong hob burner when making a soup and instead fired up the one that had the pan lid sitting on it. It was only a minute later when I heard a tiny popping noise that I realised what I'd done. Thankfully the lid hasn't warped at all, but the heat must have caused it to react, as it appears to have oxidised and is now a bronzy/black sort of colour. Is there any way to get it back to normal or does it need throwing away?0
