Glass Hire

As part of the 80th birthday celebrations for my Dad, my job is to hire the champagne glasses and buy the champagne for the toast. I have no clue where to even start looking. I want the bubbly cheap and cheerful as it won't be on tap (just for the toast) and I need enough for about 50/60 people. It has to be champagne (I have had my orders - NO CAVA, which I love).
Cheaper the better please as I'm also having to pay for the food too and my money tree has been eaten by caterpillars.

If you buy your drinks at Morrisons they loan the glasses for free. We are T total and for our childrens weddings we had soft drinks with Shloer for the toast, Morrisons were more than happy to loan us the glasses for free even though we just bought shloer from them. I think they charge 50p per breakage. Not certain but I think Sainsburys do the same serviceNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

Thank you, unfortunately Morrison's charge far more for champagne than I am willing or indeed able to pay0

When I worked at Asda (5ish years ago) they used to do glass hire in the same way Seth has described - as long as you buy your drink from them the glass hire is free (I think a refundable deposit is needed and then a small charge is made for breakages, but can't remember what these were). I assume they will still do it and I wouldn't be surprised if Tescos and Waitrose do it too. Not sure about the cheaper supermarkets (Aldi, Lidl, etc) but it might be worth ringing your local store to find out if you need to.
Alternatively I think most off licences (Threshers, Oddbins, etc) will probably do the same thing, but the drink from there may be more expensive than supermarkets (but then you might get a better range if you are after something specific). No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -
I've had a quick look and even using sites like Oddbins Calais the cheapest I can find is M&S Oudinot non vintage (dry or medium) at £14.99 a bottle (based on buying a case of 6 online).
TBH under that price I can't see the point in getting a poor quality champagne when a £10 cava would beat it hands down. Can't you just have champagne for your dad and cava for everyone else? Cava is really fashionable now and isn't seen as being inferior to champagne any more. I don't think your dad is being fair making you pay double what you need for wine if money is tight. (BTW I did read your post saying only champagne will do but if it was me I would press the point).0 -
If you got the glasses from Morrisons you don't have to buy champagne there just some of the drinks for the event, J2O perhaps, whatever you chooseNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

Independant retailers usually offer a glass loan service, as well as a sale or return. So should something not get drunk youcan return it for a refund.
Morrisons are the only supermarket i know that do glass hire.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

Sainsbury do free glass hire, you have to pay £20 deposit and £1 of any are damaged or not washed on return0

Waitrose do free glass hire and you don't have to buy anything. For champagne I think Tesco own brand is the best.
Have a great party.0 -
Tesco do free glass hire for parties if you buy the drink from them,at least they used to,have not noticed the posters lately but then again I have not been looking for them.Look in the drinks aisle for the posters/notices or ask at customer services to see if they still do it."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0
